Canton City School Staff Achievements
- A Timken teacher was a finalist in the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce's "Teacher of the Year" Program.
- A McKinley teacher was selected as the CPEA "Teacher of the Year".
- A bus driver finished first in the Regional School Bus "Roadeo" Competition in May. He then finished first at the State Competition. We also had another driver finish fourth, making her an alternate to the State Competition. An additional driver served as a judge at the State Finals in Columbus.
- A McKinley teacher was named the Council for Exceptional Children "Regular Educator of the Year" for Stark County.
- A Timken Vocational Evaluator received the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Association of Vocational Education Special Needs Personnel for the highest meritorious contribution to students with special needs.
- 25 teachers were awarded $500 Henry P. and Kathryn A. Kurdziel Foundation Grants.
- The Aquatics Manager at the C.T. Branin Natatorium received the United States 1995 Swim Team Development Coaches' Award.
- A school nurse made a presentation at the Ohio State Middle School Conference.
- The Director of Physical Activities received an invitation to speak at the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Convention in San Diego, CA in December.
- A Timken guidance counselor served as President of the Stark County School Counselors Association.
- A Hartford teacher earned a Grant from the McKinley Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa Educational Fraternity.
- A secretary in the Pupil Personnel Department served as secretary of the Stark County Office Professionals in Education.
- A Souers teacher was named the East Central Ohio "1995 Outstanding Art Educator'".
- 2 Lehman teachers won the Program Excellence Award for Ohio sponsored by the International Technolgy Education Association.
- A Program at Hartford called "Project Wheelbarrow" received a $10,000 Grant from the Hoover Foundation.
- A Souers teacher was accepted into Middlebury College's Breadloaf School of English in Vermont.
- A Harter teacher won an Ohio State Extension Garden Grant.
- A Computer Lab was developed at Allen by the Technology Services Department.
- Lathrop Staff and Students raised close to $200,000 for their Link-On-Place playground.
- 2 Belle Stone teachers won first place in Stark County from the Community Television Consortium's Video Contest
- Summit School received another year of Venture Capital funds to implement the Accelerated Schools Model.
- Youtz's principal was named Smythe Cramer "Citizen of the Day".
- The Community Education Department earned full accreditation from the Ohio Department of Public Safety as an Emergency Medical Technician training site.
- Summit received a University of Dayton Education Systems Change Project Grant.
- Mason and Youtz were 2 of 20 schools selected to receive the Channels 45/49 1995-96 Equity Project to help 4th graders with the proficiency tests.
- A Summit teacher received a Grant from the East Ohio Gas Company.
- The Human Resources Executive Director was Chairman of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival Volunteers' Appreciation Party Committee.
- A Harter teacher won a Hills Department Store Grant.
- A team of 5 adult educators were regional winners in the Ohio Association of Adult Continuing Education's annual recognition program.
- The Technology Services Department successfully developed the Wells Training Lab program.
- Summit became a Pilot Site of a Family Resource Center in conjunction with Stark County Family Council.
- 12 teachers were awarded Canton City Schools Foundation Grants.
- Mason's principal was named Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce's Teacher Recognition Committee and the "Teacher of the Year" Banquet.
- Many teachers and schools earned Parent Involvement Grants from the Educational Enhancement Partnership.
- 52 Elementary, Middle School and High School teachers were awarded Impact II Grants from the Ohio Department of Education.
